New Timber framed house built by the architect for his family in 1974. The house design featured a south -facing 2 storey passive solar greenhouse (conservatory). Winter sun peneprated deep into the rooms behind, and warm air circulated by convection into the upper floor bedrooms. The heating was by off-peak electric underfloor cables on the ground floor and block storage heaters in the bedrooms. The roof and walls were very well insulated. |
