A drama one morning after lighting the fire - suddenly a joint between copper and plastic pipes ruptured and the boiler overheated dangerously.
The plumber came instantly, rejoined the pipes and was baffled why they failed. Added some safety devices and agreed to pay for a new thermostat which had evaporated.

Then it snowed again for the fourth time this winter !
...but no difficulty in keeping warm even with the Godin awaiting a new thermostat. A consequence of the boiler crisis is the smoke staining above the fire, which had to be emptied of burning logs in a hurry. But it can be easily cleaned.
In the kitchen instead of wall cupboard units we are having open shelves as in our present kitchen.

When the weather improved I collected the oak for the main staircase from the sawmill, and cut and planed it on a machine belonging to a friend.
